Two persons have been arrested by the police in Accra for allegedly possessing 500 rounds of ammunition.
One of the suspects, a 25-year-old scrap dealer, Imoro Abdul Wahab was arrested at Agbogbloshie where violent clashes last week led to the death of one person.
According to the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tengey, the suspect upon interrogation led the police to effect the arrest of the second suspect at Arena, 58-year-old Kweku Amankwah, a registered arms dealer.
Amankwah is said to have sold the ammunition to Wahab at GH¢1000.
At a press conference Wednesday, ASP Tengey said the two were arrested on Tuesday upon a tip-off.
She said the police retrieved 250 AA and 250 BB cartridges from the suspects.
The two have since been detained for investigations after which they will be processed for court.
“For now the intent for possessing the ammunition is still yet unknown and it is still under thorough investigations… Both suspects are being detained for investigations and shall soon be arraigned before court after intent has been established,” ASP Tengey said.
