After making it five wins out of five matches, the Senior National Cricket team has emerged winners in the just ended ICC WCL Qualifier, Africa Region Qualifier tournament, held in Benoni, South Africa.
The tourney which started on April 7, saw Ghana pitch its strength against Sierra Leone.
Ghana set up a score of 179 runs in 42.5 overs for Sierra Leone to chase. The latter could only manage 66 runs in 32.5 overs as they were bowled all out by disciplined bowling attack. Ghana won the match by 113 runs.
Ghana went on to play Nigeria in the 2nd match of the tour. Again, a wonderful display of bowling ensured that Ghana would enter match day 3 unbeaten, against a Botswana side which was also yet to taste defeat. Ghana won by 4 wickets with 217 balls remaining.
The third match was a crunch and exciting one between two undefeated sides. Ghana won the toss and elected to field. Botswana scored 154 runs for 10 wickets in 46.2 overs. Ghana went on to score 155 for 6 wickets in 34.4 overs, winning the duel by 4 wickets.
Ghana followed on to beat Tanzania by 5 wickets in a match where the latter scored 133-9 in 50 overs. The former scored 134-5 in 37.4 overs.
Ghana hosted Zambia in the last match and won by 9 wickets to be crowned champions. Ghana by virtue of this win, wo d participate in the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 in September 2017.
The team arrives in Ghana on Saturday, April 15 at GMT 21:15.
