The Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), the first Pentecostal and charismatic church in Ghana, has begun a year-long celebration to mark its centenary anniversary.
The church started the celebrations with a joint hoisting of the church’s flag and that of the country at its headquarters at Osu in Accra.
While members of the church, including the young and old, waved miniature flags of the church, the Chairman of CACI, Apostle Dr Stephen Kwame Amoani, hoisted the flag of Ghana and that of the church while the General Secretary of the CACI, Dr Emmanuel Osei Kwabena Donkor, raised the centenary flag.
Church members in the colourful anniversary cloth of white, yellow and blue sang and danced to the anniversary hymn which played in the background, as others captured the historic moment on their mobile phones and cameras.
Appreciation
After hoisting the flags, Apostle Dr Amoani thanked God for bringing the Church that far, saying 100 years in a lifetime was a significant and important milestone that should be observed with the highest adoration.
The theme for the anniversary is 100 years of impacting the world through Pentecostalism.
The flag hoisting was held simultaneously in all branches of the church throughout the country and beyond to start the anniversary celebrations which will be climaxed in November 2017.
Contribution
Apostle Amoani said the Church, over the years, had contributed directly and indirectly to the socio-economic and political development of the nation, such as the establishment of educational institutions, the provision of health care and other social amenities.
“These were part of the vision of the Leader and Founder of the Christ Apostolic Church International, Apostle Peter Newman Anim, 100 years ago and so as we celebrate these achievements made over the years, we want to congratulate our founder members whose toils have brought CACI this far,” he said.
The clergyman used the opportunity to congratulate Ghanaians on the 60th anniversary of nationhood.
He appealed to Ghanaians to help maintain the peace the nation had enjoyed in the past and continue to enjoy as “we cherish our values as one people with one nation and one destiny.”
