Eight persons thought to have aided the escape of 13 suspects remanded by a Kumasi Circuit court on Thursday have been arrested.
A bench warrant has also been issued for the arrest of the escaping suspects who had been accused of forcibly throwing out the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator from office on the grounds that they oppose his appointment.
The arrested and those on the run are said to be members of the New Patriotic Party’s Delta Force vigilantes.
A statement issued by the police Thursday evening said the 13 suspects had been remanded by the presiding judge, Mary Nsenkyire, to reappear on April 20 after pleas for bail by their counsel had been declined.
“Their supporters on hearing this moved into the court premises and in the process all the thirteen (13) accused persons escaped through the back door used only by the judge,” the police said.
