The Cyber Security Authority has warned the public against subscribing to Digital Lending Mobile Apps. This follows a recent surge in cyberbullying incidents linked to these applications.
The Cybersecurity Authority added that it has received 130 reports of such cases this year.
The authority in a statement, described the modus operandi of these persons as involving automatically crediting users’ mobile wallets with small amounts usually below GH?200 even without actual loan request, followed by extortion tactics such as demanding high-interest repayments, threatening to circulate compromising photos, and continuing demands even after repayment.
Identified apps included Ahomka Loan, Antcredit, Beanloan, Bestloan, and many others, which contravene the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act and fail to comply with Data Protection Act requirements.
The cybersecurity authority advised the public to avoid these apps and report their activities.
