The Rotary Club of Accra-Legon has commemorated its 12th anniversary with a three-day series of activities showcasing its commitment to education, sanitation and community development. The programme included a community sanitation outreach, a fundraising event, a donation to a children’s home, and a royal dinner to strengthen partnerships.
As part of the activities, club members participated Rotary International District 9104’s WASH Project and provided a handwashing station at La Wireless School in Accra. The gesture will support hygiene and sanitation practices aimed at promoting safer and more hygienic learning environments.
The club also hosted a fundraising event, the “90s Jam Reloaded,” in support of its flagship initiative, the New Legon M/A ICT Lab Project. The event brought together Rotarians, partners and supporters to raise funds to expand digital access for schoolchildren.
In a separate outreach, the club donated books and essential supplies to Potter’s Village Orphanage at Dodowa to support literacy and the mental well-being of the facility’s inmates. Speaking at the donation event, Delasie Dogbey, President of the Club said “the gesture reflected Rotary’s continued emphasis on education and literacy as well as human-centred development.
The anniversary activities concluded with a Royal Dinner at the Palace of Mankralo Tetteh Kwajo I, Mankralo of Dodowa. At the dinner, members of the club reviewed the club’s achievements and renewed commitments to service. Mankralo Tetteh Kwajo I, who is also the club’s President-Elect reaffirmed that Rotary’s mission extends beyond leadership cycles.
Since its charter, the club has undertaken various service projects including the provision of a state-of-the-art ICT lab for the New Aplaku MA Cluster of Schools, sanitary facility for the Anum Community in the Eastern Region and ambulances to support maternal health in and around Ashaiman, among other projects.
“As we struct towards our thirteenth year, we must unite for good and do even more,” Mankralo Tetteh Kwajo I stated, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, strategic partnerships, and sustained community impact.
