Ten years ago, Chalé Clothing began with a simple idea; to tell African stories through something as familiar as socks. Today, that idea has evolved into a lifestyle movement that celebrates creativity, culture and community.
This December, the proudly Ghanaian brand marks its 10th anniversary with a new milestone – the launch of its second retail store, located in the vibrant heart of Osu.
What started in 2015 as Chalé Socks – a home-grown brand inspired by African patterns and the energy of Ghanaian street culture has since transformed into Chalé Clothing, a full-fledged creative brand representing African craftsmanship and contemporary design.
Over the past decade, Chalé has grown from a niche accessories line into a global statement of identity, connecting Africans everywhere through fashion that feels familiar yet forward-looking.
“When we started, it was never just about socks. It was about creating something people could identify with – a symbol of belonging. Every pair of Chalé Socks carried a story about who we are and where we come from. Now, we’re telling that same story through a wider canvas – clothing, lifestyle, community and experience,” says Kurtis Kudjo, Founder and Creative Director of Chalé
From socks to style – A journey of creative growth
Chalé’s journey began with a mission to create quality, locally inspired products that stood proudly beside global brands. Its signature bold socks quickly became a cultural statement, seen on creatives, professionals and everyday people who wanted to “walk with pride.” The brand’s expansion into clothing was a natural progression – blending streetwear sensibilities with authentic African aesthetics. From graphic T.Shirts and hoodies to versatile everyday fits, Chalé Clothing has consistently reflected the pulse of modern Africa: youthful, expressive and full of purpose.
The first home – Spintex store
In June 2024, Chalé took a major step by opening its first flagship store at Spintex, a move that allowed customers to experience the brand beyond online interactions. The space became a hub for community- where art, fashion and conversations met. It also gave fans a chance to see, feel and live the Chalé spirit in person.
The next chapter – Osu store launch
Now, a decade after its founding, Chalé is expanding its footprint with the opening of a new store in Osu – Accra’s most dynamic cultural and commercial hub. The launch, set for December 6, marks not just a new retail space, but the beginning of a new chapter for the brand.
The Osu store will introduce an elevated in-store experience that blends fashion, art and lifestyle; a reflection of Chalé’s vision to evolve with its community. Visitors can expect a refreshed design aesthetic, exclusive anniversary collections and a space that celebrates Ghanaian craftsmanship in a contemporary way.
“Osu holds a special place in Accra’s creative culture,” Kurtis adds. “It is diverse, youthful and full of life; the same things Chalé represents. Opening our new store here is our way of saying thank you to everyone who’s walked with us over the last ten years. We’re growing, but we’re still rooted in the same energy that started it all.”
Celebrating a decade of impact
Beyond its products, Chalé’s 10-year journey has also been about driving sustainable social change in creative yet underserved rural communities. Its main charity organisation, the One Chalé, is dedicated to putting a million smiles on the faces of people through the “A Million Smiles” initiative specifically within the Agotime-Kpetoe community of the Volta Region of Ghana. The brand has collaborated with creators across the continent and continues to advocate for home-grown excellence in global fashion.
As Chalé celebrates this milestone, it remains true to its founding vision of walking with purpose, creativity and community at every step. The new Chalé Store officially opens on December 6, 2025 in Osu, Accra.
