The Ghana Science & Tech Explorer Challenge Prize (GSTEP) has officially begun preparations for its 2026 challenge by inducting a new cohort of 20 Youth Ambassadors.
The induction ceremony, held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Accra, welcomed five young leaders from each of the four participating regions: Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti, and Volta. These ambassadors will serve as the youthful face and voice for the GSTEP Challenge throughout 2026.
Executive Director of the DreamOval Foundation, the lead implementer of GSTEP, Afua Oforiwaa Asiamah Adjei, expressed confidence in the new cohort, “This new cohort of the GSTEP Youth Steering Group represents the bold, brilliant and diverse voices shaping the future of STEM in Ghana.”
She highlighted that each ambassador selected has demonstrated curiosity, leadership and a genuine desire to create impact in their communities, qualities at the heart of GSTEP.
“As we expand into more regions and grow the programme’s national footprint, we are confident that these young leaders will help champion innovation, inspire their peers, and strengthen the culture of practical STEM learning across the country,” she said.
The induction marks the start of a comprehensive, year-long development programme designed to cultivate essential 21st-century skills. Beyond their core ambassadorial duties, which include supporting operations and events, communications, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and community action, the youth will engage in extensive personal and professional growth.
The induction event featured team-bonding sessions and the first communications masterclass, laying the groundwork for effective public engagement. The ambassadors also received orientation on their specific roles within the programme structure.
Over the next year, the YSG will participate in five key masterclasses focused on communications and public speaking, collaboration and social impact, entrepreneurship and business planning, pitching and presentation, and event management.
Furthermore, five group mentorship sessions are scheduled to support their long-term development, covering critical topics such as leadership, career planning and goal-setting, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, and digital skills, including an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The inclusion of the Volta Region for the first time was a highlight of the ceremony. Rejoice Selasie Tsyokplo, a YSG member from Volta, expressed her enthusiasm and high expectations for the journey ahead.
“For the first time, the Volta Region is part of the GSTEP YSG program, and I am proud to be one of its representatives. From the teamwork to the masterclass, today’s induction has been an incredible experience. By the end of YSG 2026, I hope to strengthen my leadership, build my confidence, and broaden my knowledge in STEM.”
The GSTEP Youth Steering Group forms a core part of GSTEP’s vision to empower young people to lead, innovate, and champion practical STEM learning in their schools and communities. The newly selected ambassadors are now poised to support GSTEP Challenge activities within their various regions.
