To mark MTN Ghana Sustainability Week, the telecommunication company has partnered with volunteers from Bus Stop Boyz and Mckingtorch Africa, and organised a massive clean-up exercise at the Sustainability Week in Accra.
Divided into teams, the volunteers with protective gloves and rubber sacks picked through the shores of the beach, collecting plastic bottles, discarded footwear, dresses, foams, among others.
In an interview during the activity, Sustainability Manager – MTN Ghana, Rhoderlyn Entsua Mensah, explained that the project is not only to promote responsible waste management but to also encourage recycling of used products in the country.

She also added that removing waste from the shoes of the beach helps protect marine ecosystem, ensure cleaner water bodies and secure the country’s food chain.
“We are here with our partners today to collect waste, particularly those that could be recycled. This move is to encourage and enlighten our customers on the importance of recycling,” she noted.
Encouraging the public, she urged for regular beach clean-ups while highlighting that the practice could also help reduce disease, such as diarrhea and cholera in communities and promote tourism when cleaned.
Makafui Awuku, Founder – Mckingtorch Africa, also raised concerns over the increase in plastic waste in the country, especially the beaches, and also recommended the practice of recycling.
While commending MTN Ghana, he also called on all corporate institutions to get involved in the fight against plastic waste.
