Heath Goldfields Limited has confirmed the tragic death of three illegal miners who gained unauthorised access to an inactive section of the company’s underground workings in its Prestea concession.
The individuals are believed to have entered the restricted area through unapproved routes, leading to the fatal incident.
“This is an extremely painful moment for all of us. Every loss of life is a tragedy and we extend our deepest condolences to bereaved families and the entire Prestea community,” said Patrick Appiah-Mensah, Managing Director-Heath Goldfields, in a statement.
The statement noted that the company is fully cooperating with the Ghana Police Service, Minerals Commission and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as investigations and recovery efforts continue.
The statement commended those agencies for their swift and professional response, emphasising that Heath Goldfields remains committed to the highest standards of safety and responsible mining.
“We continue to strengthen and enforce robust security and safety protocols across all our concessions. Protecting human life is at the core of our operations,” the statement added.
It also assured stakeholders – including traditional authorities, regulators, community members and partners – of the company’s unwavering dedication to constructive engagement and safeguarding livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that the company’s Community Relations team is engaging local leaders to support affected families and keep the community informed as investigations progress.
