The Ghana Association of Savings and Loans Companies (GHASALC) has officially launched the 2025 edition of its industry games, scheduled to take place on November 15, 2025.
All 26 savings and loans companies plus 11 finance houses across the country, totalling 37, will participate in the 2025 edition.
The event, which is to be held under the theme ‘Building Bonds Beyond Banking’, seeks to strengthen collaboration among member institutions and promote the health and well-being of employees across savings and loans companies and finance houses.
The 2025 GHASALC games mark the fifth edition of the annual games and will take place at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Saturday.
This year’s games mark a return after an eight-year hiatus attributed to macroeconomic conditions, including the 2018 banking sector clean-up, the revocation of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) licenses, the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 economic downturn leading to haircuts.
Managing Director of Bayport Savings and Loans, the headline sponsors, Akwasi Aboagye, speaking at the media launch, underscored the importance of employee well-being and the role of the games in promoting health within the industry.
“Our institutions serve as the backbone of the Ghanaian economy as we provide financial services to teachers, traders, health workers, civil servants and business owners whose livelihoods depend on them. Yet, behind the numbers are the people who make it all possible – our employees.
“A healthy workforce is not a luxury, but it’s a strategic necessity. When our people thrive, our organisations thrive and initiatives like these games help reinforce teamwork, mutual respect and collective progress,” he said.
The Chief Executive Officer of GHASALC, Tweneboah Kodua Boakye, also shared details about participation and the range of sporting disciplines lined up for this year’s competition.
“We have 26 savings and loans companies and 11 finance houses registered to participate, and the games for the event include football, volleyball, table tennis, Ludu, Oware, among others,” he stated.
He added that the GHASALC industry games continue to serve as a platform for fostering camaraderie, teamwork and networking among players in Ghana’s savings and loans sector.
The 2025 GHASALC Industry Games Planning Committee Chairperson, Jacob Idan, on his part, underscored the importance of the sporting activities, emphasising that members of the professional body can only serve the public when in good health; hence, the importance of the exercise cannot be overemphasised.
He indicated that there will be a penalty shootout for CEOs and children’s games, such as a bouncy castle and face painting, for families with kids.
