The Vibrant Village Foundation (VVF), a non-profit organisation, has held the 2025 edition of its annual grant Partners Forum in Walewale in the North-East Region, with the commitment of empowering local leaders through unrestricted funding and capacity-building support to undertake programmes to support young and vibrant entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers to grow their businesses.
This is to help improve food security, family health, financial well-being and education in rural areas for holistic and community-driven approaches that address the root causes of poverty.
The grant is also to promote regenerative farming practices, access to quality seeds and fertilisers and soil health to help smallholder farmers’ transition beyond subsistence.
The organisation – with its headquarters in Portland, Oregon, USA and its West Africa Regional Office located in Wa, Upper West Region of Ghana dedicated to advancing well-being and resilience in rural communities, particularly in Africa and Latin America – aimed to ensure girls’ empowerment, literacy and protection from gender-based violence
The three-day event, which brought together partner organisations, staff and stakeholders for learning, collaboration and strategic reflection, was also to foster a culture of respect, embracing diversity and local ownership in all programmes.
Participating organisations included PureTrust Foundation, Songtaba, CALID, Global Brigade, Fifty-Fifty Initiative for Development, Rights Action Ghana, URBANET, Peace for Life Ghana, and Brave Arora. Each partner made a presentation highlighting their 2025 achievements and key lessons.
A major highlight of the forum was the formation of community of practice around themes like gender and social justice, climate smart agriculture and community-led learning and collaboration.
Regional Partnerships Director for VVF West Africa, Alhaji Osman Alhassan, said the programme is aimed at providing financial inclusion to women and vulnerable groups under the Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) to build economic resilience.
“With Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project, the grant is to support the building of boreholes, sanitation facilities and hygiene education to reduce disease and enhance food security,” he said.
He noted that the training was to build the capacity of the partners to inculcate the spirit of patriotism, ensuring value for money and also resolve to foster learning and networking among themselves.
Alhaji Osman explained that VVF would remain committed to fostering joint action and resource mobilisation in building a better world for the next generation.
He encouraged partners to design and submit collaborative project proposals that would help to build thematic communities of practice around gender, social protection, financial resilience and climate-smart agriculture.
These efforts, he said, would create a continuous platform for knowledge exchange and capacity development.
Chief Executive Director of Brave Arora, Abdul Rahman Gbana Iddrisu, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the capacity building and knowledge sharing, saying it was his first time participating; and that hosting it in Walewale, where the organisation operates, made it even more special and educative.
He said the education has helped to identify some opportunities available for partners seeking to help build resilience in the rural communities. He also acknowledged VVF’s continued support in fostering learning and capacity strengthening among partner organisations.
Executive Director of Songtaba, Hajia Lamlatu Adamu, noted that the joint action plan developed by the partners and the strategies for collaborative work would help strengthen advocacy and campaign efforts.
She emphasised that the field visits and community-level interactions provided valuable insights and exposure to innovative practices that could benefit right-holder groups.
She commended VVF for creating a platform that enabled meaningful engagement and deeper understanding among partners, describing the three-day programme as highly beneficial for all participating organisation.
