The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), in collaboration with local cable manufacturers, has introduced a new Digital Conformity Assessment system dubbed the ReVEO App – to promote standardisation and ensure circulation of only quality electrical cables on the local market.
The initiative, piloted under the Authority’s digital conformity assessment project, aims to help consumers, retailers and electricians easily verify the authenticity of electrical cables using a Quick Response (QR) code affixed to each product.
Speaking at a one-day sensitisation programme held in Kumasi, Project Coordinator for the Digital Conformity Assessment at GSA, Ing. Francis Mensah Akpaloo, said the app will empower consumers to make informed purchasing decisions while supporting local manufacturers that meet regulatory standards.
“We are introducing a digital platform that allows consumers to scan and authenticate products before purchase. Currently, we are piloting this with electrical cables produced by the six major manufacturers certified by GSA: including Nexans Kabelmetal, Tropical Cables, African Diamond cables, Reroy cable and manufacturers, Fenice Meta technology and Focus technology,” he explained.
Ing. Akpaloo noted that the app enables traceability, helping users identify a product’s origin, certification status and location. He emphasised that this technology will help eliminate fake or substandard cables from the market and promote fair competition among genuine producers.

Ashanti Regional Manager-GSA Dr. Samuel Kofi Frimpong, in his opening remark, mentioned that the ReVEO app provides detailed information about each scanned cable, including its brand, specifications and source.
“With a single scan, users can see all essential details about the cable. This innovation aligns with GSA’s commitment to digital transformation and consumer protection,” Dr. Frimpong said.
He further revealed that while the project currently focuses on electrical cables, the Authority plans extending the system to cover other regulated products in the near future.
Participants at the sensitisation programme included representatives from local cable manufacturing companies, electrical retailers, distributors and contractors. They commended Ghana Standards Authority for introducing the ReVEO app, describing it as a timely intervention to address the growing challenge of counterfeit and substandard electrical products on the market.
Many expressed optimism that the initiative will not only protect consumers from potential electrical hazards but also strengthen confidence in locally manufactured cables.
The session also provided a platform for stakeholders to engage directly with GSA officials, seek clarification on the app’s functionality and discuss collaborative strategies to ensure its effective adoption nationwide by January 2026.
