The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), has urged government to adopt a national policy mandating the inclusion of qualified marketing professionals on state and public sector boards to strengthen brand positioning and drive economic growth.
Speaking at the 36th CIMG Annual National Marketing Performance Awards in Accra, National President Michael Abbiw stressed that embedding marketing expertise at the highest level of governance is critical for economic transformation.
“In an era marked by global uncertainty and rapid change, repositioning Brand Ghana has never been more urgent. Marketing is the bridge that will carry Ghana from potential to prosperity and from local to global markets,” he said.
Mr. Abbiw called for public sector organisations to invest in their marketing teams and support their professional development through CIMG qualifications. He also announced the introduction of a league table to rank organisations that actively build staff capacity in marketing.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, in a speech read on his behalf, acknowledged the crucial role of marketers in national development. He said the government recognises that a nation’s brand is a vital asset, and Ghana’s economic progress depends on how effectively its opportunities and strengths are marketed locally and internationally.
He added that the government’s reset agenda and 24-hour economy policy require sectors, including marketing, to innovate and realign strategies to make Ghana a leader in economic advancement.
The awards, held under the theme “Repositioning brand Ghana: Marketing for economic growth and transformation”, saw Dr. James Orleans-Lindsay, Executive Chairman of JL Holdings, named Marketing Man of the Year, and Mansa Nettey, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, awarded Marketing Woman of the Year.
Other winners included Asiedua Addae of Standard Chartered Bank as Marketing Practitioner of the Year and Benedicta Nyame of the University of Media Arts and Communication as Marketing Student of the Year.
Melcom Ghana was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Elite Category (10 years and above). Others recognised in the below 10 years category included Vanguard Assurance, SIC Life, Japan Motors, Ecobank Ghana PLC, Goil PLC, MTN Ghana and TotalEnergies Ghana.
