Young Ghanaian businessman and former student of Achimota School, Akora Maxwell Ampong, has urged final-year students of Achimota School to remain committed to the school’s values and stay connected to its Old Achimotan Association (OAA) to succeed in life.
Akora Ampong was a Guest Speaker at the 2025 Induction Ceremony to welcome the students who will be completing Achimota School this year into the Old Achimotan Association (OAA).
In an inspiring address, Akora Ampong narrated how being an Old Achimotan has impacted his own life and business.

“Achimota has always been more than a school. Our crest, the black and white piano keys, has always been a social blueprint. If you think about it, it signifies harmony from difference, just as the piano only produces beautiful music when both the black and white keys are played together. The Founders knew what they were doing. They were sketching a nation, by building a school,” Akora Ampong said.
He shared his long-term belief and commitment to the values that Achimota School imparts to its students, noting that the Managing Director of his companies is an Akora of McCarthy House. His Akora school father of Aggrey House has remained a mentor to this day and supports his business drive. His Akora school son of Livingstone House has worked with him and even became one of the best men at his wedding. Additionally, he added that his own wife is also an old Achimotan of Slessor House.
“These stories are proof. They are proof that the connections you form here may carry you for decades to come, shaping your work, your friendships, even your family. So the most important lesson so far, for me, has been this: marry an Akora, and it will change your life,” Akora Maxwell Ampong said, which was followed by a loud clamour at the Aggrey Chapel in Achimota School.

He encouraged the students to face life with perseverance and to learn never to give up on anything.
“… true leadership is not about being flawless. It is about persistence. It is about staying in the game when the noise is loudest. Because the trick is this: you only lose when you bow out,” he stated.
He further observed that the students will be confronted with challenges and criticisms in their lives as they grow up into adulthood, but encouraged them to be willing to use those as opportunities to innovate.
“Critics will come. Challenges will come. Challenges are not curses. They are opportunities. They are what force you to innovate, to grow, to find new ways to make old things work. Embrace them,” he stated.
Akora Ampong emphasised the importance of remaining connected to the school through the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) as a springboard for their success in life.
“…Change will outpace you. But if you stay in the game, if you stay efficient, if you keep your eyes on the future, if you lean on your connections made here, if you become active members of the Old Achimotan Association, you will not only survive. You will thrive, and you will multiply.”
Also speaking at the event, Akora Shika Kuwornu, a Pastor, Physio, and Businesswoman, urged the students to learn to create their own economies to survive all conditions.
“You have to be resolute. You should never give up or back down. That is the Achimota spirit,” said Akora Kuwornu
After the inspiring speeches, the students were formally inducted into the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) and received their membership certificates.
They also elected their year group executives, who were sworn into office to conclude the event.
