…to boost energy production and sustainability
Eni, together with its Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) partners Vitol and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has signed a Memorandum of Intent with the government of Ghana to expand oil and gas production while advancing new sustainability initiatives.
The agreement, signed in the presence of President John Dramani Mahama and witnessed by the Ministers of Energy and Green Transition and Finance, outlines plans for a comprehensive investment package aimed at ensuring reliable, affordable and lower-impact access to energy.
Among the proposed measures is an increase in production capacity at the OCTP project, combining offshore and onshore upgrades to help meet Ghana’s rising domestic energy demand. The partners will also evaluate further exploration activity, including potential development of the Eban-Akoma field in Cape Three Points Block 4. Declared commercial in July 2025, the field is expected to become a significant new source of supply by leveraging existing infrastructure.
In addition to production expansion, the partners highlighted their ongoing social investment commitments. Eni and OCTP partners have so far channelled more than US$10million into education, healthcare, clean water access, hygiene programmes and support for local livelihoods, directly benefiting over 10,000 people. A second phase will scale up these interventions, with added focus on supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
Eni, which has operated in Ghana since 2009, currently produces about 34,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company holds a 44.4 percent stake in OCTP, with Vitol holding 35.6 percent and GNPC 20 percent. Since production began in 2018, the OCTP project has delivered over 107 million barrels of oil and 480 billion standard cubic feet of gas – meeting about 70 percent of the country’s gas demand for power generation.
