Beneath the snow and the frost
The soil lies hard and cold
Above the snow and the frost
The trees stand sleeping
Brown and bare
The trees keep trembling
Swaying in the wind
Too cold to share
The dead stems shiver
Withering and wavering
It is now winter
It is winter
When we wonder whether summer will ever return
Whether summer will ever bring back the sun
When November is over
When December takes cover
When winter is over
We wonder
Will there be sunshine after the rain?
Will there be a smile after the pain?
Beneath the snowflakes
Hidden stems
Beneath the frozen earth
Buried roots
Beneath the hardened crust
A million seeds lie therein
Buds
Buds on the stem
Buds on the roots
Hidden only until the next summer
Buried only to grow into plants to flower
Buds that make the heart of a sleeping plant bud
A little warmth
A licking taste of litres of water
Then sleeping plants awake again
And sleeping life awakens
Sleeping life awakens from a slumbering pain
Frogs and ants and spiders
Summer animals are sleeping too
Sleeping under withered flowers
Snuggled beneath the leaves
Hibernating till it’s warm again
To awaken life from sleep
Seed
A package of life in a tiny pack
A store of food in a tiny pack
A tiny plant packed in a tiny sack
Seeds of life therein packed
A seed of the mustard
…a seed of faith
A seed of the oak
…a seed of strength
A seed of the willow
…a seed of higher heights
A seed buried in the womb
…a seed of life
A tiny life packed in a tiny mould
Growing into a bigger spark for life
It is winter
When we wonder
Whether summer will ever return
Whether summer will ever bring back the sun
After the cold…chilly weather
We wonder
When November is over
When December takes cover
When winter is over
After January’s dragging hangover
We wonder
Will there be sunshine after the rain?
Will there be a smile after the pain?
