Bills Micro-Credit has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting health, culture and community well-being with a GH¢250,000 donation in support of the 2025 Ga Mashie Homowo Health Walk, scheduled for Saturday, 9 August, 2025.
The donation forms part of the company’s broader partnership with Team OkintinKlan, organisers of the walk, and reflects its continued dedication to community-focused initiatives. The walk is one of the major curtain-raising activities for the annual Homowo Festival, which will be officially celebrated this year on Saturday, 16 August.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony at the company’s offices in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of Bills Micro-Credit, Romeo Rich-Love Seshie, highlighted the symbolic significance of the health walk to the institution and the Ga community at large.
“It’s not just about putting on sneakers and moving our bodies,” he said, adding that: “This walk is symbolic. When we walk together, we honour the past, strengthen the present and clear the path for the future.”
The Ga Mashie Homowo Health Walk has evolved into a key part of the festival calendar, bringing together residents, youth groups, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to promote healthy living and celebrate the resilience and cultural identity of the Ga people.
As part of its support, Bills Micro-Credit is providing 5,000 branded T-shirts for participants, bottled and sachet water, soft drinks and full funding for logistics and event operations.
“This isn’t just about corporate visibility. It’s about walking the walk — literally and figuratively. We are deeply connected to the community, and the Homowo Health Walk reflects our values of unity, resilience and purpose,” the CEO added.
A tribute was also paid to the company’s founder, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, whose dedication to hard work, integrity and strong community ties laid the foundation for the establishment and growth of the business.
Team OkintinKlan, organisers of the event, were commended for their ongoing efforts to preserve cultural heritage and promote wellness among the Ga youth. In turn, they expressed appreciation for Bills Micro-Credit’s longstanding partnership and support.
This year’s event is expected to attract over 6,000 participants and will set the tone for a month of celebrations across Ga Mashie, including Jamestown, Bukom and surrounding communities.
Homowo, meaning ‘hooting at hunger’, is the most important festival of the Ga-Dangme people. It commemorates a historic famine and a subsequent bountiful harvest, and is celebrated with traditional rites, drumming, music and communal feasting.
The 2025 edition of the festival is expected to draw thousands of residents and visitors from across the country and the diaspora, with festivities celebrating the cultural pride, resilience and unity of the Ga people.
