The Commissioner of Insurance (Ag.), Dr. Abiba Zakariah, has called on professional insurance ladies to have plans in everything they do, not only as insurance practitioners, but also in their personal lives.
She emphasized that PLANNING is the first step to success, adding that understanding one’s situation and goals is essential. “Only through this can plans be successfully executed,” she noted. She challenged the Lady Professionals to consciously make plans that are achievable and relevant in their chosen careers.
She highlighted the importance of personal development through studying, learning new methods, and acquiring relevant skills. This, she noted, would positively influence both professional careers and family life.
Dr. Zakariah further remarked, “Excellence is never an accident. It is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution, and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities to make an impact.”
The Commissioner made these remarks during a summit to commemorate the tenth anniversary celebration of the Chartered Insurance Ladies Association Ghana (CILAG) held in Accra. The event was held in grand style, with focus on raising funds to support childhood cancers.
She urged all women to take up some form of insurance, noting that this would have a significant financial impact on society.
The President of CILAG, Lady Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah, stated that integrity, professionalism, resilience and collaboration are key to the success of women in the insurance field. She noted that CILAG has built not just a community of high-end professionals but also a strong force within the industry.
The theme for the celebration was “A Decade of Excellence: Shaping, Empowering and Securing the Future of Professional Ladies in Insurance.” A panel discussion on the role of female practitioners in Ghana’s insurance industry featured Ms. Shiela Wristberg, Dr. Nashiru Iddrisu, Mrs. Mercy Boampong Mr Stephen Kwarteng Yeboah and Gideon Atararaire, who expressed strong support for the ladies and encouraged them to strive for excellence. The topic treated during the panel discussion was “The role of the professional insurance Lady in influencing the growth of the industry” and moderated by Lady Naa Adole Avevor serving as moderator.
CILAG aims at promoting dedicated and professional insurance women who are committed to advancing and upholding the growth of the insurance profession. The association also serves as a platform for enhancing insurance knowledge, promoting industry penetration, and supporting ethical practices. It provides interactive forums to help members achieve their professional goals.
Outstanding members who have contributed significantly to CILAG and the insurance industry were honored with citations. These included the founder, Ms. Lydia Lariba Bawa, and Dr. Abiba Zakariah, as former and current Commissioners respectively.
Lady Adumuah called on industry leaders to recognize the potential of female professionals, provide them with opportunities and support their continuous development.
The event concluded with a fundraising activity in support of childhood cancer initiatives that would help save the lives of children who may find themselves in such unfortunate predicaments. She made a clarion call on all individuals and corporate entities to take a cue from this corporate social responsibility initiative as CILAG has started with.
