Ghanaian fintech, Kowri, known as ‘the way to pay’, has further demonstrated why it is the way to pay.
The 2-year old fintech recently announced the launch of its groundbreaking voice command feature, setting a new standard for digital financial accessibility and convenience in the Ghanaian market.
The new voice-activated technology allows Kowri users to execute financial transactions, check balances and manage their accounts through voice commands – a first for payment platforms in Ghana and around the sub-Saharan region.
This innovative feature, which not only works with English but most Ghanaian languages including Twi and Hausa, addresses critical needs for users with limited digital literacy, visual impairments or those seeking faster, more intuitive banking experiences. “We’re not just adding a feature; we’re transforming how Ghanaians interact with their financial services,” said Claud Hutchful, CEO and one of the founders of Kowri. “Voice technology breaks down digital barriers, making financial management more inclusive and effortless for everyone.”
The fintech’s mantra is around making life a lot more convenient and accessible for the average African. “Fintechs are really about using technology to make finance more accessible. So there was no better way to demonstrate our commitment to making life easier for our customers – but also using technology which both reduces accessibility barriers for millions more as well as makes sense for the ever-evolving digital customer.”
The company recently introduced a Scan to Pay feature that replaces the inconvenience of taking time to type-in phone numbers in order to send money with a seamless and instant scan action. “In this era of a very quickly changing technology landscape, it’s important to demonstrate how technology can drive the customer experience when it’s in the forefront of product development,” said Claud.
Kowri’s Voice Command Technology opens up a smarter, faster and more intuitive way to manage your finances. With just your voice, you can now perform essential tasks on the Kowri app – making everyday transactions even more seamless in a secure environment.
With transactions possible in English and local languages, managing your finances is possible regardless of whether a user is fluent in English or more comfortable in a local dialect – Kowri’s voice technology understands you.
The technology is compatible with most smartphones and there’s no need for any special devices.
Currently, the voice feature supports a range of high-frequency transactions including sending money, paying bills and airtime purchases, with a lot more on the way. Available immediately for all Kowri users, the voice command feature represents a significant leap in digital financial innovation for Ghana’s growing fintech ecosystem.
The company will in the coming weeks also extend this feature to merchants, enabling their customers to pay them with voice directly. Users can access this technology immediately by downloading Kowri or updating their existing app.
