Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley, has extended his generosity to widows in Accra, donating essential food items and medical support as part of his long-standing commitment to giving back to society.
The donation event, held on March 9, 2025, at Mantse Agboena in James Town, was organised in collaboration with RIDNE Food Consortium of Ukraine.
The widows received various food supplies, including wheat flour, canned turkey meat, sardines, pasta, dry peas, cookies, sunflower oil, rice cakes, and condensed milk. Additionally, packs of soft drinks, biscuits, and bags of rice were distributed.
Speaking at the event, Mr. McKorley, said the initiative was a reflection of his passion for supporting the less privileged, particularly widows who often face economic hardships.
“My heart always fills with joy when I see the needy happy. This is personal for me because I know what it means to struggle, and I believe in giving back to mother Ghana and our communities,” he said.
He noted that his company has been involved in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for over two decades, with a focus on uplifting vulnerable groups.
“Times are tough, and widows are often overlooked. That is why I am happy to dedicate this day to them,” he added.
The Commercial Director of RIDNE Food Consortium, Mr. Sergii Kovalchuk, stressed his organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in both Ghana and Ukraine. He also expressed interest in future collaborations with the McDan Group to combine resources from both countries for food production in the country.
“This partnership with McDan is part of our efforts to support people in need, both in Ghana and in Ukraine. Our Consortium unites 11 food factories and 25 farmers in Ukraine and has been actively working with humanitarian missions to assist those affected by the war. This is our pilot project, and through it, we hope to demonstrate a significant mission, helping to sustain the Ukrainian economy while also providing food assistance to vulnerable communities in Africa,” Kovalchuk stated.
He also highlighted future plans to expand the initiative beyond food donations. “In the next phase, we aim to develop food production in Africa, particularly in Ghana, by combining products from both countries. The food parcels distributed today already contain a mix of Ukrainian and Ghanaian products, and we hope to build on this in the future,” he added.
As part of the event, health professionals from VIVA Health and Medical Foundation provided free medical screenings for the widows and residents of James Town. The screening included checks for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), malaria, hepatitis B, dental health, and general wellness. Those diagnosed with health conditions were given free prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The widows expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as a timely intervention.
The donation was part of the McDan Widows Support Project, an annual initiative that coincided this year with the International Women’s Day celebration.
