Tamale — A combined security team of police and military personnel at the weekend arrested 16 suspected criminals in a special operation undertaken within the Tamale metropolis and surrounding environs.
The swoop was part of efforts by the security personnel to halt the ascendancy of crime in the area.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yussif Mohammed Tanko disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in an interview.
He revealed that narcotics substances were found with some of the suspected criminals during the swoop.
DSP Tanko also mentioned that eight motorcycles believed to belong to the suspects were impounded in the special operations.
He hinted that the combined security personnel would not relent in its effort to go after all criminals from their hideouts.
DSP Tanko, said the swoop which was conducted in specific locations regarded as haven of criminals in the Tamale metropolis would continue till such time that the unwanted elements were flashed out of the system.
"The exercise will continue at other places outside and within the metropolis to clean the region," he stated.
DSP Tanko assured that the security personnel would work hard to ensure that law abiding citizens go about their normal businesses without fear.
He thereby appealed for collaboration from the general public to ensure the success of the exercise.
