One Arrested in Connection With Murder of Family of 5

One person has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a family of three at Zuchukpo, a village near Tsopoli, in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region.

The suspect whose identity is being held by the police for security reasons was picked up shortly after the incident.

Currently, the police have mounted a search for other suspects, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dodzi Hlordzi, Prampram Divisional Police Commander, stated when confirming the arrest to Ghanaian Times.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the three were shot before being set on fire.

The Ghanaian Times reported last Saturday that the family were shot and burnt by unknown assailants on Thursday.

Police identified the deceased as Tetteh Oman, 50, a livestock and crop farmer, his wife Darli Josephine Tetteh, 40, and Akuoko Oman, their three-year-old son.

The deceased had been conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

According to the police, Oman drove his family in his white pick-up vehicle with number GW 8970 V, to Tsopoli to fetch water but while returning they were ambushed, shot and burnt by the assailants who also set the vehicle ablaze 50 metres away from their house.

ACP Hlordzi, said Police got information from a caller on Thursday, at about 7pm that, a family of three had been killed and burnt.

He said when police proceeded to the scene they discovered that the deceased had been burnt beyond recognition.

Three spent pellets from the scene had been retrieved with bullet holes on the vehicle.

ACP Hlordzi said police inferred that the deceased might have been shot before being put back in the vehicle and burnt.

He said police gathered that the deceased owned a large herd of cattle and was hardworking, however there had been litigation over places where his cattle grazed with others in the area.
