Ho — A MURDER enquiry is underway at the border town of Nyive in the Ho municipality of the Volta Region, following the discovery of the body of an eight-year-old girl in a bush, about 200 metres away from her home.
The Ho Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Anthony Danso, who disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in Ho yesterday said, the police identified the deceased as Yawa Agyemang.
He said that the naked body of the girl was dumped under a tree with a perforation under her right armpit, and blood oozing from her vagina.
According to Sup Danso, the girl's mother, Abalo Serwaa, sent the girl to Nyive to buy 'Vitago' balm late in the afternoon on Monday, but she failed to return home and that efforts to trace her proved futile.
He said the mother reported the matter to the police at Tokokoe, and the police assisted her to contact various radio stations in the municipality to announce the disappearance.
Sup Danso said later, the girl's mother, returned to the police to inform the police that the body of the girl was found in the bush, near their house.
He said when the police proceeded to the scene they found the naked body of the girl under a tree, and it was taken to the Ho Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Sup Danso said that no arrest had been made, so far, in connection with the incident, and "we have just started investigations into the matter".
