Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has hailed Kwadwo Asamoah as the most underrated teammate he’s ever played with. Gyan, who currently serves as an ambassador for the upcoming 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, made the statement during an appearance on TV3’s New Day.
“Kwadwo Asamoah had a great career. Just look at the clubs he played for Juventus, Udinese, Inter Milan… I think people really slept on him. He’s easily the most underrated Ghanaian player I’ve played with,” Gyan said.
Kwadwo Asamoah is widely regarded as one of the most talented players to have represented Ghana. He began his professional career with Udinese in 2008, before securing a high-profile move to Juventus in 2012. At Juventus, Asamoah was pivotal in the club’s six consecutive Serie A titles between 2013 and 2018, using his energy, technical skill, and versatility to shine in multiple roles. Despite later injury setbacks, he also went on to play for Inter Milan and Cagliari.
Internationally, Asamoah featured in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and two FIFA World Cups with the Black Stars. He earned individual accolades such as CAF’s Most Promising African Player in 2010 and Ghana Player of the Year in both 2012 and 2013. In 2013, financial media outlet Bloomberg ranked him 27th among the best footballers in the world.
