
Damages caused to properties during the violent clashes between students of the Sokode Senior High Technical School and youth of Sokode Gborgame in the Ho Municipality, have been estimated to amount to GHC175,000 -excerpts of a committee report revealed.
The clashes which occurred on Sunday, 23rd February, 2025 following a misunderstanding between some students who had established links with some youth of Gborgame, led to the temporal closure of the school for about a month.

The clashes also led to the destruction of several structures including parts of the school’s fence wall, the glass windows and the burglar proof of the school’s security post.
The roofings of two residential properties and a church around the school, a vehicle, motorbike, two pubs that operate a few meters away from the school were not spared the damages.
“It is worth noting that most of the narrations gathered from various witnesses, point to the fact that the entire story revolves around Master Bernard Kumah, a student at the school,” the report revealed.
“It has been observed that a total estimated cost of damages amounted to GHC175,000,” the report added.
Some 22 students, a journalist with Ho based Swiss FM and one other person from the town sustained various degrees of injury during the clashes, the committee report further stated.
The 42-page report has since been submitted to the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on Monday, 14th April, 2025 by a 7-member committee led by Mr Alexander Mawusi Buadi.
The report also revealed the worrying trend of the use of drugs among students, while highlighting serious lapses within the PTA, school board, and SRC structures as contributing to the growing indiscipline in the school.
The committee has recommended that groups, individuals including students who have been identified as culprits should be sanctioned.
The Volta Regional Minister upon receiving the report, announced the full report will be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Department for the necessary advice and further action.
