Deputy Defense Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has said that military training is crucial in shaping Ghana’s youth, serving not only to bolster defense and security but also to instill valuable life skills and discipline.
At the passing-out ceremony of the 453 Blue Water Guards on April 14, Mr Brogya Genfi highlighted President John Mahama’s quest to have the youth acquire military training.
“The President firmly believes that military training has a significant role to play in shaping the youth of this country not only as a means of our defense and security preparedness but also to promote discipline, patriotism, and national service. It is for this reason considerations are being made to inculcate some military training in the National Service program,” he said.
Mr Brogya Genfi noted with satisfaction that facilities at the Naval Base in Ezinlibo are well-suited to support this vision.
He said they envision a future where many more young people will pass through these gates not just to wear a uniform but to carry within them the spirit of service and love for their country.
He urged the traditional leaders to support the Blue Water initiatives.
“To our esteemed traditional leaders, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and wisdom. Your enduring partnership remains crucial to the success of this initiative, and we continue to count on your leadership in championing environmental protection within your communities,” the Deputy Defence Minister noted.
Mr. Genfi said “To our partners in government and civil society, let us continue working hand in hand across all sectors to secure a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Ghana.”
He charged the Blue Water Guards to remain committed to the task “Your efforts have yielded results that our dear nation will be proud of. Finally, I congratulate the newly passed-out Blue Water Guards for this accomplishment. You are pioneers, protectors and patriots. Go out there and serve Ghana with pride.”
The Blue Water Guards initiative aims to employ 2,000 personnel this year to protect Ghana’s water bodies from illegal mining activities.
This effort is part of a broader strategy to preserve the country’s natural resources and promote sustainable development.
