Thomas Partey was on the scoresheet as Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being deployed out of his favored midfield role, the Ghanaian international continued his impressive form from the midweek performance against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at the Emirates.
The Gunners, seeking to maintain momentum after thrashing Real Madrid on Tuesday, hosted the Bees at the Emirates.
Arsenal believed they had taken the lead minutes later when Kieran Tierney headed in Ethan Nwaneri’s cross, but a video assistant referee (VAR) check revealed the left-back was clearly offside.
Despite the home side’s dominance, the game remained goalless at halftime. After the break, Thomas Partey opened the scoring in the 61st minute following excellent work from Declan Rice.
The goal marked Partey’s fourth league goal of the season for the Gunners, taking his league tally to six goal contributions (four goals, two assists),his best goalscoring season in the Premier League since joining Arsenal( 2020/21 – 0 goals, 2021/22 – 2 goals, 2022/23 – 3 goals ,2023/24 – 0 goals
2024/25 – 4 goals).
Brentford equalized 13 minutes later when Nathan Collins headed the ball back into the Arsenal area for Wissa to cleverly slot the ball into the net.
With Arsenal’s draw on Saturday against Brentford, Liverpool can move 13 points clear when they host West Ham on Sunday.
However, Thomas Partey and Arsenal’s focus now shifts to their Champions League second leg in Madrid on Wednesday against holders Real Madrid.
With a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg, the Gunners aim for a favorable result in the second leg to secure a spot in the semifinals, their first since 2009.
