Personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command and National security operatives on 7th April 2025, impounded some ECG cables meant for the Loss Reduction Project (LRP) exercise in Asokwa District, Kumasi.
A staff of Electro-Power, an ECG meter supplier, was also arrested.
The Ashanti South Regional Director of the ECG, Ing Daniel Mensah Asare said the cables in the custody of Electro-Power were mistaken to be from missing containers at the Tema Harbour.
“The LRP project is a nationwide private sector partnership with ECG to supply and install meters for ECG Customers. It therefore requires ECG to supply the 3rd Party contractors with cables and other accessories to enable them to execute their contract with ECG for our valued customers,” Mr Mensah said.
This explains the stock of some cables and other related materials in their warehouses and offices.
Meanwhile, Management of Ashanti South visited the Regional Police Command to confirm the cables as property of ECG meant for LRP exercise and has nothing to do with the missing containers and also assist with the release of Electro Power staff.
Ing Mensah Asare denied media reports that the cables found in Kotei is part of missing containers saga.
He rejected claims that the cables are part of the 1,346 ECG containers that have gone missing.
“This is not part of the cables under investigation currently,” he stressed.
He said they are in to serve the interest of the public and will not do anything untoward.
Mr Asare also appealed to the public to feed them with information whenever they come across some of things.
Meanwhile, the Regional Police Command has requested a detailed report supported by a Way-Bill and the necessary documentation to be delivered to them by Monday 14th April, 2025.
