Brennan Johnson scored twice for Spurs to seal Kamaldeen and Southampton’s Championship status with seven games to end the season.
Johnson hit a first half brace with two well-taken strikes before Mathys Tel’s first Premier League goal secured the points for Spurs, albeit Southampton scoring a late consolation goal.
Sulemana was on hand to tee up Fernandes, who pulled a goal back for the lowly and insipid Saints, who have now been relegated.
Southampton have accumulated 10 points from 31 games, the lowest tally by any club in the Premier League era at this point of a season.
With seven games to go, Southampton are on course to match or better Derby County’s worse points returns in a 38-game season.
Derby were relegated with 11 points in the 2007-08 season.
Southampton, however, hold the record for the fastest relegation by a team in the English top flight, with seven games to end the season.
The Saints were promoted prior to the start of the 2024-25 season, but have failed to perform to the appreciable standards of the league.
Southampton have recorded just two wins all season – against Everton and Ipswich – with the last of their two wins coming against Ipswich on February 1, 2025.
Although Sulemana provided his first league assist of the season, to Mathew’s Fernandes, the ignominy of relegation over shadowed it.
