Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah sustained a knee injury, which could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the season, in Lyon’s 2-1 Ligue 1 victory against Lille on Saturday.
Lyon’s Champions League qualification ambitions are on course after picking up a narrow win over Lille – a result which leaves them a point behind third-placed Marseille and one point clear of fifth-placed Nice.
However, their hopes of making it to next sseason’s Champions League may well be dashed after winger Ernest Nuamah left the pitch in agony.
Nuamah picked up an injury in the fifth minute of Lyon’s game while contesting for a ground duel with Lille’s Gabriel Gudmundsson.
The Ghanaian came off worse in the duel, leading to his inability to carry on with the game.
Ryan Cherki replaced Nuamah, who looked to be in excruciating pain as he went off.
The full extent of his injury is set to be ascertained on Sunday after medical examinations.
Early indications and reports suggest the winger may have ruptured his cruciate ligament.
Speaking after the game to DAZN, midfielder Rayan Cherki, who replaced Nuamah and scored Lyon’s second goal, said,
“A very big thought for Ernest. I know it’s not easy to get hurt, come back strongly. A speedy recovery. We are looking forward to you because we need you.”
Nuamah has been an indispensable part of Lyon’s season, scoring six times across all competitions.
