Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has rhapsodized about African football after recording his first victory on the continent.
The Swede, with over decades’ worth of experience, has managed different clubs, including Apollon Ladies in Cyprus,
Linköpings FC in Sweden, Beijing BG Phoenix F.C. in the Chinese Women’s Super League (CWSL) and Racing Louisville in the NWSL .
With different experiences across the world, Kim Lars, who took over the Black Queens managerial job, is taking charge of his first national team. His appointment is in line with the Black Queens’ upcoming participation in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
After 2 matches, the Swedish national in his first test with the Queens were defeated by Morocco. The team, however, got back to winning ways by clinching a 1-0 win over Senegal.
While addressing the media in Senegal after his first victory, Kim Lars expressed all the good things about African football.
“To be part of African football is something that I am really enjoying. The football here is beautiful. I love it. Maybe ssubs are tactical, but it’s beautiful. So many good players, they are good on the ball.”
The victory against Senegal is the first win since 2023 when the team won in the WAFCON qualifier against Namibia in Accra.
