Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren was stoked after guiding Ghana’s women national side to a 1-0 victory over Senegal on Saturday.
The friendly victory over Senegal marked the first of the Bjorkegren era at the second time of asking.
Bjorkegren’s first outing was a forgettable one after his side were involved in a lopsided contest against Morocco, losing by a late goal in the end.
However, the first of two games against Senegal, also in preparation for the summer’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) was more enjoyable.
Ghana nicked ahead in the first half via an Evelyn Badu header from close range.
Despite providing a route back into the game for the hosts after Anasthesia Achiaa was sent off, the Black Queens managed to guard their lead to record a first victory in six games.
“Of course it’s professional football, you’re always happy when you win. For us, the most important thing was to win the game. We knew before the game it was a tough game for us, tough away game. We knew Senegal can be physical,” Bjorkegren said
“I felt the start was really good; I’ll say the first 30 minutes. We also scored a goal, I’ll say a beautiful one in exactly how we want to play,” he added.
Ghana would have to repeat the feat again on Tuesday when they take on Senegal in the last tie of their double-header.
