
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has provided details of how two students at the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi suffered gunshot injuries on April 4.
In a press release dated April 5, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo said investigations are under way.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred at the Adventist Senior High School on Friday. April 4, 2025, at about 12:00pm,” he wrote.
Here is a blow-by-blow account:
– Preliminary investigations reveal that a 16-year-old second year student (name withheld) brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB ammunition to school.
– The student allegedly attempted to show the firearm to his classmate. During the exchange, the firearm accidentally discharged, hitting another student. All names of those involved are being withheld.
– The injured student has since been treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
-The juvenile suspect has been arrested, and the empty cartridge has been recovered and retained as evidence.
– During the questioning, the suspect stated that he took the weapon from his father’s bedroom without his father’s knowledge. Authorities are actively working to locate and arrest the father to assist with the investigation.
It is recalled that two students at the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School on Friday April 4, suffered gunshot wounds inflicted by their classmate.
Reports from the school indicate that Bernard Amoabeng, the suspect, brought the gun to school for yet to be established reasons.
An argument among some students over whether the gun was real, ensued.
