
The Minister of Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has applauded the Ghana Police Service for the professional manner in which they handled that 2024 elections.
He stressed that not a single shot was fired despite heightened tensions.
Speaking during his visit to the Ashanti Regional Police Command on April 4, the Minister touched on the professionalism displayed by officers.
He observed that their decision not to use force was a significant step in ensuring peace and stability.
“For the first time, no single shot was fired by the Police. The only gunfire heard came from the opposing side, not from law enforcement. This demonstrates discipline and adherence to the principles of responsible policing,” Alhaji Muntaka stated.
He appealed to the officers to continue prioritizing de-escalation tactics and to bring offenders to justice through legal means rather than the use of excessive force.
“I encourage you to pursue those responsible and bring them to book. Your decision not to fire should not be mistaken for weakness—it is a sign of professionalism. The evidence will be there, and justice will be served,” he assured.
He underscored the need for Police stations to be well-equipped, suggesting that every station should have at least four patrol vehicles to enhance mobility and efficiency in responding to security threats.
He stated “I’m aware of the challenges you are facing. As your Minister, I will do everything possible to assist you get the job done.”
His comments come at the time efforts are being made to strengthen law enforcement and improve public trust in the Police.
