The Minister of Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has directed the Ashanti Central Police Command to close Kumasi Drug Hub, Thinker Island.
The place, over the years, has been described as notorious drug hub in Kumasi. The place is a no-go area, especially in the evenings.
The Minister stated, “Regional Commander there’s one thing I’m looking up to from you and your men in the region. I want you to collapse Thinker as a special welcome message to me as your Interior Minister and I will equally reward you and your men.”
The order came during his meeting with the Police administration in the Ashanti Region. He took the opportunity to address senior police officers.
He stressed the need for swift action against criminal activities in the area.
“Residents want to see real action. It is time to ensure that Thinker Island is cleared. We cannot allow this place to continue being a haven for drug-related crimes,” Alhaji Muntaka stated.
The MP for Asawase emphasized the importance of a well-researched and strategic approach in tackling the drug menace, urging the law enforcement to carry out a thorough operation while ensuring that innocent people are not affected.
“This crackdown must be done systematically. We need to make sure that those responsible are brought to justice while protecting innocent residents,” he said.
Thinker Island has long been identified as a hotspot for illicit drug trade and other criminal activities, drawing concerns from both residents and security agencies.
The Minister’s order is expected to lead to increased Police presence and intensified efforts to dismantle the network of illegal activities operating in the area.
The Ashanti Central Police Command has assured the Minister of their commitment to executing the operation effectively. They appealed to the public to support the Police by providing information that could aid in identifying perpetrators and ensuring lasting security in the region.
The Ministry’s move to target Thinker Island aligns with broader efforts to combat drug-related crime across the country, reinforcing its stance on law enforcement and community safety.
