Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has taken issue with the leadership style of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
He argues that Afenyo-Markin’s approach has not only sparked discontent among the opposition but has also drawn concerns from the Majority side of Parliament.
Dafeamekpor noted that similar complaints were made about Afenyo-Markin during his time as Majority Leader, suggesting that his leadership tactics have remained largely unchanged despite switching roles.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Thursday, April 3, he criticized Afenyo-Markin for frequently holding press conferences, exaggerating parliamentary matters, and staging walkouts—even on issues initiated by his own side.
“We all are [concerned] because, you see, he is not the first Minority Leader we’ve had in this country, and he has been a Majority Leader before. We had cause to complain about his style as a Majority Leader, and now four months down the line, he’s found himself on the other side of the aisle,” he stated.
Dafeamekpor recalled that during Afenyo-Markin’s time as Majority Leader, he often held press conferences despite being in government, took parliamentary matters to court, and staged walkouts.

“You recall how as Majority Leader he was always holding press conferences even though he was in government. He would take matters to court and dramatize, and with the slightest matter on the floor, they would walk out—sometimes on their own business,” he added.
With Parliament currently on recess, Dafeamekpor expressed hope that Afenyo-Markin would take the time to reflect on his leadership approach and make necessary adjustments.
“We believe that this recess will offer him the opportunity to review his performance between January and the end of March and see whether there will be opportunities for him to mend the way he handles matters on the floor and also amend the way he conducts affairs among his people and between his people and us,” he noted.
