A Signal Officer with the Ghana Armed Forces, Captain Festus Yeboah Asuamah, is set to embark on a remarkable 250-kilometer Endurance Ride from Accra to Kumasi on Saturday, April 05, 2025.
The inspiration behind the initiative is a tragic incident involving Akpene Adzo Ahadzie, a cycling enthusiast and final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
Miss Ahadzie, a day to the defence of her mock thesis lost her life in a cycling accident on campus in 2024.
Her thesis, which focused on repurposing the Pokuase Interchange for cyclist use, was never defended due to her untimely passing.

Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Thursday, April 02, 2025, Captain Asuamah indicated that it was time drivers acknowledged the road they use are equally shared by cyclists and should be protected whilst they also use the road.

“I’ve observed for sometime now that cycling accidents usually happen. So I want to create the awareness to help protect the safety of riders. Since there are no bicycle lanes on our roads, I want the drivers to know we share the roads with them,” he stated.
Captain Asuamah aims to raise awareness about the importance of sharing roads between drivers and cyclists. He emphasizes that the lack of bicycle lanes on Ghanaian roads makes it crucial for drivers to acknowledge and protect cyclists.
He is confident that “a journey of a 1000 miles begin with a step” and with the effort he is putting in to embark on this all important initiative, the aim will be achieved at the end of the day.
