Ghanaian rapper King Paluta has admitted receiving payment from former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 election campaign season.
King Paluta was seen on stage during the campaign season performing his hit song ‘Aseda’ for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections, fueling speculation about financial incentives behind his appearances.
His confirmation comes after he was criticised over his recent comments about some social media influencers being paid to rally behind other artistes.
The controversy began when King Paluta, in a post on X on April 2, 2025, expressed disappointment after noticing a fan and an influencer who previously supported him to win Artiste of the Year has suddenly opted to endorse other artiste for the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) bid.
One user responded by reminding him of how he was also paid to perform for political party, stating that social media influencers deserve to be paid also for their support.
“You took big money from politicians during elections and now complain about influencers taking money? This is how it works-you pay, you get served.”
Paluta confirmed receiving funds from Bawumia’s camp, replying, “The money I took from Baweezy de?, e really pain boys.”
The revelation comes as Paluta remains a top contender for Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards, with his chart-topping hits like “Aseda” and “Makoma” dominating airwaves throughout 2024.
