The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has cautioned road users not to overlook safety measures during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Th NRSA in a statement on March 28, congratulated all Muslims in Ghana for their dedication and perseverance throughout the 30 days of fasting.
The Authority further commended Muslims for their spirituality, discipline, and compassion and dedication to the 30-day fasting, values he said are equally essential to improving road safety.
“As we approach the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the Authority joins in the celebrations with prayers for peace, good health, and the desired attitude to deliver safety during the festive time,” the statement noted.
The NRSA said the festive season is often characterised by increased movement and activity on our roads, leading to an increased risk of traffic crashes if safety measures are not given the needed attention.
“The Authority urges all road users to take frontline responsibility for their safety and that of others on the road to ensure a safe and incident-free Eid Al Fitr celebration.
“We urge all drivers and motorcyclists to refrain from overloading, speeding, engaging in dangerous driving, and reckless riding. Pedestrians are advised to avoid jaywalking and use designated crossing points, such as zebra crossings and pedestrian footbridges,” NRSA stated.
The Authority remains committed to collaborating with its stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, to create a safe and incident-free environment during and after this festive period.
“The NRSA wishes all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid al-Fitr. Let us celebrate responsibly,” the statement added.
