Market fire: Bawumia urges all to be patient for final report to know cause

Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has urged all stakeholders to be patient and wait for the final investigative report on the cause of the fire at the Adum Market in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

He made the point that the report will determine the way forward for the market.

Dr Bawumia said this after visiting the Blue Light Market scene at Adum in Kumasi to commiserate with traders on Tuesday, March 25.

During interaction with the traders, he said, “I want to appeal to the [Mahama] government to complete the 80% done Kejetia Market Phase 2, that we started but couldn’t complete.”

He also commended the Ghana National Fire Service for their bravery in dousing the inferno and urged all to be patient and wait for the final investigative report on the course of the fire.

Scores of shops at ‘Blue Light’,  Adum in the Central Business Centre of Kumasi were gutted by fire Friday dawn.

Some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage wares. They threw caution to the wind despite warnings from the police and firefighters to stay away

A shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.

The cause of the fire remains unknown but it appears as if an explosion was heard from some of the burning shops.

Apparently, materials in those shops are combustible.
