
The Kusaug Traditional Council has condemned the killing of a soldier by unknown gunmen in Bawku on Monday, March 17, 2025.
The soldier, who was part of a peacekeeping force, was shot dead near a military buffer zone in the suburb of Kpalore-Avengo.
In a statement, Zug-Raan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, President of the Kusaug Traditional Council, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the incident, noting that it has left the community in grief and distress.
The Zug-Raan extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation. He also urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Additionally, the Zug-Raan called on all stakeholders to collaborate with security forces in identifying those responsible for the heinous act. He emphasized that swift action would be crucial in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The statement also underscored the importance of upholding peace, respecting human life, and adhering to the rule of law.
Since the resurgence of the protracted chieftaincy-related tribal conflict in October 2024, at least 76 lives have been lost.
This latest attack on security personnel has heightened concerns over the escalating insecurity in the Bawku municipality.
