Cyber Security Analyst, Dr. Edward Danso-Ansong has urged the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) to identify the device which was used to hack President Mahama’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The President’s X account was hacked on Monday, March 17 to promote a cryptocurrency, “Solana Africa”.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in a statement on March 18, 2025 confirmed that the President’s X account has been compromised and said investigations were being carried out to resolve the matter.
Few hours after the CSA’s statement on March 18, President Mahama announced via is Twitter page that the account has been recovered.
In an interview with TV3 on March 18, Dr. Danso-Ansong explained that identification of the device or how the hacking was done would go a long way to prevent a similar situation in the future.
“With the CSA coming into it, we need to know the device on which this particular attack was launched. It could either be a remote connection or maybe some other link that was shared that compromised the particular handheld device, I know that the CSA has the officers to be able carry out very stringent investigations to be able to unravel the modus operandi of the hackers,” he stated.
He described the situation as “embarrassing” while calling for a rigorous cyber security training for the handlers of the President’s account.
Dr. Danso-Ansong further expressed confidence in the CSA to do a diligent job in preventing a future occurrence.
“It is quite embarrassing to the nation and very serious thing to deal with. I think the handlers of the President’s social media account also have to go certain level of training and I know that the CSA will actually do a good job by taking them through these multi-factor authentication measures and protocols in order to ensure that such things never happen again,” he stated on News Central, March 18, 2025.
Dr. Danso-Ansong did not rule out the possibility of another hacking of the President’s account, stressing the need for stringent measures to be instituted.
