
On Monday, March 17 the Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak welcomed Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno (COP), the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), to his office in Accra.
During the meeting, the Minister congratulated Mr. Yohuno on his recent appointment and expressed his unwavering support for his tenure as IGP.
He said the new IGP’s assurance of dedication toward making the police service one of the best in the region resonated deeply with him, reflecting a shared vision for a more effective law enforcement agency.
“As we navigate complex societal challenges, it is imperative that leaders within our institutions remain committed to improving their services while prioritizing community engagement and public trust,” Muntaka wrote on his Facebook page after the meeting.
In alignment with President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Ghana Agenda, he added “I emphasized the necessity for Mr. Yohuno to enhance professionalism within the police force. Professionalism will not only improve operational efficiency but also foster greater accountability among officers.
“As we collectively strive towards a safer society, it is vital that our law enforcement agencies uphold high standards that reflect integrity and respect for human rights.”
President John Dramani Mahama appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), according to an official statement from the Presidency dated Thursday, March 13, 2025.
The appointment, made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, sees COP Yohunu taking over from COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who has been relieved of his position.

The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, noted that COP Yohunu brings forty years of experience in policing to his new role. He is expected to lead efforts in the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service.
