After more than two years of legal proceedings, the state has formally withdrawn treason felony charges against #FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
The decision, confirmed by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, brings an end to the high-profile case that stemmed from Barker-Vormawor’s comments following the passage of the E-Levy.
The move is part of a broader strategy by Dr. Ayine, who has also discontinued other major criminal cases, including the trials of former COCOBOD CEO Dr. Stephen Opuni, businessman Seidu Agongo, and former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama.

Reacting to the news, Barker-Vormawor expressed mixed feelings, emphasizing the personal and academic toll the case has taken on him.
“Since the intention was to impede my doctoral programme, I want to say Ayekoo to the Government and to Godfred Dame. They succeeded. Kindly release my passport and take me off the No-Fly List,” he stated.
He further lamented the financial implications of the prolonged case, revealing that he had lost funding for his studies at Cambridge.
“Now that I have lost my funding for Cambridge; we need to address that too so I can finish my programme,” he added.
The Attorney General’s office has yet to comment on Barker-Vormawor’s request regarding his travel restrictions.
