Three girls’ dormitories of Labone Secondary School in Accra caught fire on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
The incident is said to have occurred in the afternoon around 1 pm. No casualties were recorded.
Student mattresses, chop boxes, learning materials, and other items were completely destroyed by the fire.
Reports suggest that students were on prep and learning at the time the incident occurred.
However, speaking exclusively to 3News, a member of the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Headquarters, ADO Alex King Nartey disclosed that one of the bigger dormitories has totally burnt while 2 other rooms were partially burnt.
“We dispatched the tender at 13: 00hrs. We arrived at 13:07 hrs and fire was under control at 13: 42 hrs,” he stated.
After containing the fire, the GNFS said investigations will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire although they suspect an electrical fault.
Meanwhile, management of the school are appealing to the general public, particularly parents to stay calm as the situation has been contained without casualties.
They plan to put measures in place to protect students moving forward. Occupants of the dormitories affected by the fire have been evacuated.
