Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed defender Tariq Lamptey suffered a bad injury in training and is set to be sidelined for the next games.
Expected to make his return from suspension against Manchester City on Saturday, Lamptey was not in Brighton’s matchday squad.
Hurzeler later revealed Lamptey had suffered a serious training injury which kept him out of the Premier League game.
“Tariq has a bigger issue,” he explained while talking about his absence and that of Solly March.
“He had a bad moment in training and I can’t say exactly how long he will be out,” he added.
Hurzeler’s comments do not entirely provide clarity on Tariq’s time away from the squad.
The injury is seen as a major setback for the former Chelsea man who was getting a decent of games under his belt.
Despite spending close to six seasons in the English top flight, Tariq came up to the century make for appearances in the league against Chelsea on matchday 25.
A major part of his periphery contributions in the league have been injuries.
Tariq’s latest injury will hurt the most as he was getting into his stride this term, providing four goals contributions (two goals, two assists) in 13 games.
With his contract set to run out in the summer, Tariq’s injury concerns make it difficult for Brighton to extend his deal beyond the summer.
