Ghanaian forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer responded to his Black Stars omission with a dazzling brace, inspiring Hamburger SV to a resounding 3-0 victory at Magdeburg on Friday evening at Avnet Arena, Magdeburg.
The prolific Ghanaian striker, who is enjoying a phenomenal campaign in the Bundesliga 2, broke the deadlock in the 9th minute with a sublime strike, as HSV got off to a flying start.
Six minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage after Marcus Mathisen scored an own goal, following Konigsdorffer’s shot towards goal, which was deflected in, earning him the assist.
After the interval, Konigsdorffer netted his second, extending the advantage for Hamburger in the 53rd minute, and registering his eleventh goal of the season.
The double takes the 23-year-old’s tally to four goals and one assist in his last nine outings with the German outfit.
Despite his remarkable run of form, Konigsdorffer was surprisingly excluded from Otto Addo’s latest squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar next week.
The Ghanaian forward made his debut on 27 September 2022 and has since then gone on to make five additional appearances for the four-time African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners.
The German-born forward has been instrumental for the Bundesliga 2 leaders as they continue their quest for a return to the top-flight league for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
Hamburger was the only original Bundesliga side to have played continuously in the top flight – without ever having been relegated – from when the league was formed in 1963, until they were relegated in the 2017–18 season, finishing in 17th place.
The German club now sits 4 points clear at the top of the 2. Bundesliga, as they bid to reclaim their spot among Germany’s elite.
