
President Mahama has urged the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno to uproot corruption within the police service.
The President noted that this is necessary to build a good reputation for the service both locally and internationally as well as improve public trust and confidence in the agency.
“Mr. IGP your role will also involve rooting our corruption within the service, corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies.
“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behaviour from bribery to the abuse of power are decisively dealt with,” the President remarked
Delivering his address during the swearing-in ceremony of IGP Yohuno on March 14, 2025, President Mahama reminded the new IGP of the safety and protection of citizens required from the police service.

The President noted that the Ghana Police Service must continue to reform itself to “meet the needs of our ever-changing society”.
“Your appointment as IGP comes at a time when the security landscape is rapidly evolving, traditional policing methods must be adapted to confront new and emerging threats and crimes.
“Your leadership must be rooted in integrity, discipline and innovation,” he said.
President Mahama called on the new IGP to priroitise building effective relationship between community members and the police to improve public trust in the law enforcement agency.
“One critical area that requires attention is the relationship between the police and the communities in which they serve. Public trust in our law enforcement is essential and without it, effective policing becomes difficult. The concept of community policing must strengthen.
“The police must be seen not as an intimidating force but as a partner in crime prevention, safety and development,” the President stated.
