Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, has sharply criticised members of the opposition for deliberately spreading misinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of President John Mahama’s administration.
In a recent address shared on social media, Mr Ofosu directly accused opposition figures, notably Dr Gideon Boako and Hon Abu Jinapor, of conducting a calculated misinformation campaign regarding the budget and operations of the Office of the President.
“We are aware that disinformation, blatant falsehoods and gratuitous lies are parts of the NPP’s armoury when it comes to waging a political battle against their opponents,” Mr Ofosu stated.
He added that as Minister of State responsible for Government Communications, “it is my duty to correct such misinformation.”
Regarding budget allocations, Mr Ofosu clarified: “It is not true that I have been allocated a total of 78 million Ghana cedis to manage government communications. That is false. What it says is that all the three agencies who now have been made part of the office of government machinery or who are now under the office of the president, their goods and services budget and their capital expenditure budget is what you see there.”

Mr Ofosu emphasised the government’s restructuring efforts under President Mahama, stating: “Because President Mahama reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23, some agencies that used to operate under the collapsed ministries have been moved to the office of the President for budgetary purposes.”
He highlighted the resulting savings: “By collapsing these ministries, President Mahama has made savings on the monies that would have been used to run the ministries… We don’t have to provide vehicles for those officials. We don’t have to provide office space. We don’t have to pay the minister a salary.”

Addressing the size of his communications team, Ofosu explained: “Because of the scrapping of the ministry, now there is myself, there is Shamima Muslim, my deputy, there is Ama Pratt who is the deputy secretary to the vice-president, and an administrative staff of three and two other people who help us manage the entire communications of both the presidency and the entirety of government communications.”
Mr Ofosu concluded with a commitment to transparency: “We will continue to keep you informed and dispel every false notion that is created about this government.”
